Lee County Wildlife Club
E B Keith Service Award
E.B. Keith, a local successful business man, was one of several founding fathers instrumental in establishing the Lee County Wildlife Club. The club organized in 1947 and incorporated in 1950.
The first gatherings were held on land owned by the Gavin family off what is now known as Wildlife Road, off Highway 1 near Quail Ridge golf course. They had a small shack and a shallow pond.
During the early years and beyond, E.B. served as club president and treasurer.
Because of his persistence and persuasion E.B. grew the club from a few members to approximately 50 members. As a club they outgrew the small shack and needed a building of their own.
In the early 60’s the club relocated to our present site on 42 acres in the Deep River area and because of great leadership the club is ours to enjoy, debt free.
E.B. Keith was a pioneer hunter, fisherman and a gentleman and a tireless supporter and worker for the Lee County Wildlife Club. Without E.B. Keith and the dedicated early members we wouldn’t have this amazing club.
Annually, our club selects a member that represents Mr. Keith's vision.
